Can I apply for a VISA credit card if I am almost 18 or should I wait?
My 18th birthday is in 9 calender days 6 business days and I was just wondering if I have to wait until I am 18 to apply for a VISA card or if I can apply basically now and hope the verification process takes longer than the 6 business days. My birthday for the record is October 17, 1991, so this year it's on a Saturday. Any help is appreciated- You have to wait for it. Sometimes you even have to wait a little bit after your 18th. In my case, if you apply for a visa credit card that same day you turn 18, then you will most likely get denied. do not do the same error I did, I applied to a lot of cards without checking my credit report first. I kept getting denied and i decided to do that and when I did, I had some accounts that were not mine. By the way to all those people who think credit cards are evill then its just your experience with credit cards. do not try to scare off other people because of the choices you make. - Even if you wait til you are 18 to apply, my guess is, you will be declined. Do you work 30 hours a week? You have to have verifiable income to get a credit card
- Just wait, when you have had the same job for a year, and you are 18 think about it, stay away from capital one, they will screw you over, and i recommend you stay away from credit cards entirely. if your trying to build credit just have a cell phone and pay the bill on time always. it works better

- To apply on - line, you have to already be 18. Just apply for one card with a low limit. My first credit card had a $250 credit limit. It was 0% finance charge on balances up to $250. I am pretty sure it was "First Financial Bank". Eventually, they raised my credit limit for my good behavior, BUT there was now a finance charge attached. Be careful with the finance charge. Some credit cards are 19% and higher. That's insane. Obviously, be careful and try not to succumb to temptation. One positive about a credit card is that you can at least begin a credit history. - As soon as you are eighteen. However, I suggest you do not unless you know how to use a credit card and have handled your own finances. The first credit card should always be opened with your bank, that way you can get in the good habit of using only what you have available in your checkings / savings. You can transfer money from your checkings / savings to your credit card as you use it, to avoid fees and also to be a responsible card holder. To build your credit especially when you are starting out is important. It will screw you for funds for school, your next new car, your home. if you mess it up. A credit card is not just a gateway into endless spending. I am pretty sure you were not looking for a lecture, and I am sorry you got one. But in my case, I waited until I was 21 and had had a stable job for 2 years being at school. Also you want to keep your limit low. If you do not earn more than x - dollars per month, do not get psyched about having a really high limit. keep it within you salary limits. Then, as you keep savings and use your card responsibly, you can up the limit when you are confident. Applying through your bank allows you to get student specials, and you always have the help of a broker. Credit card companies are not that helpful, and their starting APR is usually really high for new credit card holders. Keep in mind the application will have to be signed on or after the 17th, not before. I ume if you send it out before the 17 and they get it postmarked before the 17th, yet you signed it as if on the 17th. you are in for rejection. Unless they are not that attention detailed, but you can be ured if they open your letter prior to the 17th and it says the 17th. it will not be to your advantage
- I would just wait 9 days, its not that much but i hate credit cards tho it ruins credit. you think you can pay for it then you get layed off or some shit and your credit goes down hill. - Search around for cards with 0% introductory rates. My current card had no interest for a year. Go ahead if you want but be careful with whatever you get

One of the best systems would be to get a bank account and debit card that will tap from your checking, so that you can only take out what funds you already have. If you need a credit card for emergency purchases when you would otherwise have no money, set your credit limit to $250 or lower and do not let them raise your limit!
