What should I do if I want to apply for a student credit card but I have no credit history?
I keep getting denied for some I have no idea what to do- First of all, stop applying for credit cards. Each time you apply, your credit score goes down. And companies are not going to like when they see you have applied for multiple cards in a short period. You will continue to be denied, just like I was, until you start building credit. Put a couple bills in your name if you can, and pay those each month until you build some credit. And do not start off with like a Visa or Discover credit card, because you will continue to be denied. Try a department store credit card, like JC Penny's or a clothing store first
- your last option would be go to the bank and make a deposit for a credit card. you put down 1000 and then your credit limit would be 1000. its the bank's way of they get their money back. so after using your credit card for a while you can ask for your deposit back. if they say its too soon you can close that account and get your money back and apply somewhere else. they probably will approve because you have credit history now. when i say use your card for a while i mean at least 6 months
- Credit market is tight right now. If you have a bank account, see if the bank has a credit card they offer, and see if you qualify. It's actually NOT TRUE that multiple applications will lower your score. Multiple requests within 45 days are combined into a "hard inquiry", which does temporarily affect your credit score, but that dip is temporary and will go away in a few months
